Here Are A Few Reasons Why Millennials and Generation Z Are Losing Their Hair.

Diet and Stress are among possible reasons why we are seeing more and more millennials & Generation Z experiencing hair loss at an earlier age.

An increasing number of younger client’s men and women in their teens, twenties and thirties are experiencing hair loss and is seeking help in combating their receding hairlines and thinning hair. Thyroid disorders, Autoimmune diseases, Hormonal changes, Diet and Stress are among the known causes of hair loss in younger men and women.

Diet can strongly influence the health of the scalp and hair. There are many dietary deficiencies and influences that cause specific trichological conditions, so it’s very important to correct our diets from a young age to prevent pre matured hair loss. Studies from the growing popularity of vegetarian and vegan diets are indicating that reduced protein consumption as well as deficiencies in vitamin D, zinc and other nutrients can affect hair growth. The hair is a “non-essential tissue” so, in cases of disease being present or if the diet is lacking nutrients, the body will prioritize the stored energy for the vital organs.

Stress is also a big factor
Unfortunately, stress is a major contributing factor for hair thinning. Stress can affect the growth lifecycle of your hair at any age. Emotional and physical changes of adolescence, social life, school & family demands and work-related responsibilities can cause a lot of stress for millennials & Generation Z.  It can interrupt the hair growth process by moving hairs out of the growth phase prematurely and this can cause higher amounts of hair to fall out.

It’s normal for someone to shed between 50 to 100 hairs every day. Anything more than this is a sign of something else going on and affecting the hair growth cycle. This indicates that it is time to seek out medical help or a Tricholoigst.
